Farmer’s Clubs provide a venue for individuals of different land holdings and expertise to seek the support of a community of other farmers. Officially supported by the government through the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD, launched in 1982).
Bolpur Manab Jamin have promoted 16 Farmers’ Clubs in 16 different villages which helps farmers to open bank accounts and access credit.
Beyond financial support, the Farmers’ Clubs offer a venue for discussion of environmentally responsible agricultural practice and have led a campaign for the use of environment friendly pesticides and fertilizer. The groups also allow farmers to share ideas and seek advice on the day-to-day challenges of raising crops.
